Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) is a private non-profit organization
committed to improving health care in developing countries through
training and education. By emphasizing teaching rather than service,
HVO aims to create an indigenous group of trained health workers
who can teach others. This builds an ongoing capability that
will benefit the population long after the volunteer has departed.
The Dentistry Programs of HVO are
sponsored by the American Dental
Association and all volunteers must
be members of the
ADA. Dentists are solicited to volunteer
at sites around
the world including China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nicaragua,
St. Lucia, Laos and Tanzania. Assignments
range from one to four
weeks. Volunteers are responsible for
all expenses incurred although housing
is provided for volunteers at some program
sites. Please visit the HVO Web site
for more information: www.hvousa.org. You may also apply for HVO membership by downloading the application in Microsoft Word format and submitting it by mail. Take the time to make a difference by volunteering!
